New Delhi, October 5: The India-UAE joint military exercise ‘Mountain Guardian 2026’ began at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand, on Monday, with 92 personnel from the two armies participating in the two-week exercise.

The exercise, being conducted from October 5 to 18, is aimed at enhancing interoperability, mutual understanding and cooperation between the two forces, with a focus on operations in mountainous terrain.

Both armies have equal representation in the exercise. The Indian Army contingent comprises troops from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE contingent includes personnel from a Mountain Infantry Battalion. Women officers and combatants from both sides are also participating in specialist roles.

The participating troops will undertake joint planning and tactical drills, firing practices, surveillance-grid exercises, drone operations and physical endurance training.

The exercise will also include rock climbing, obstacle training and integrated field exercises. The training programme will incorporate technology-enabled operations and facilitate an exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures for operations in challenging mountainous terrain.

The exercise is intended to provide the two armies an opportunity to exchange operational experience and best practices while improving tactical proficiency.

The exercise is also expected to further strengthen military-to-military cooperation between India and the UAE and deepen professional ties between the two forces. (PIB)
