Bandipora, June 14: Government Middle School (GMS) Mantrigam in Bandipora district has taken a significant step towards ensuring regular student attendance and promoting transparency by becoming the first school in the Kashmir Valley to implement a biometric attendance system.

Head of the Institution Atta Mohammad Rather said this initiative aims to enhance student participation and monitor attendance effectively.

GMS Mantrigam stands out as the sole educational institution in the entire Bandipora district to introduce biometric devices for recording student attendance.  “The innovative system utilizes biometric technology to accurately track and record the attendance of students”.

Rather said  his school is the first such institution in the UT, which has started a biometric attendance system. “Earlier a Higher Secondary School in Poonch started bio-metric attendance system but this is the first Middle-level School,” he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has earlier made teachers bound during school hours due to biometric attendance, similarly children must be bound so that the education system and quality can be improved".

He said by this  system of attendance there is minimal chances of proxy by students and after one month, the attendance can be shared with parents so that they are also informed about the activities of their wards.

Meanwhile the parents  has appreciated the  school authorities for introduction of this advanced attendance system. “It reflects the commitment of GMS Mantrigam towards providing quality education and ensuring that students attend their classes regularly,” said a parent Mushtaq Ahmad.

He said the implementation of biometric attendance not only streamlines the attendance process but also promotes transparency, eliminating any discrepancies or inaccuracies that may arise.

With the biometric attendance system in place, students are required to record their attendance through the biometric device, which identifies each student uniquely based on their biometric characteristics such as fingerprints.

“The innovative efforts of GMS Mantrigam in implementing the biometric attendance system set a commendable example for other educational institutions in the valley,” said another parent Hilal Ahmad.

“The successful implementation of the biometric attendance system serves as an inspiration for other schools and educational authorities to explore similar technological solutions to improve attendance tracking, enhance transparency, and create a conducive learning environment,” he added.
