Illegal Poppy Cultivation Busted in Gadkhud Sumbal

Sumbal, May 11: Acting on specific information regarding illegal cultivation of poppy plants in village Gadakhud Gaamdu, Police Station Sumbal registered an FIR under the NDPS Act and launched an immediate investigation.

According to officials, information was received that some farmers had allegedly cultivated poppy plants illegally on their occupied land. Following the input, FIR No. 102/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Sumbal.

During the course of the investigation, police teams prepared site plans of the locations identified for illegal cultivation. Subsequently, raids were conducted jointly by officials from the Excise Department, Revenue Department, and Agriculture Department.

Officials said all necessary legal formalities and memos were completed on the spot. The illegally cultivated poppy straw was destroyed at the site by the Excise Department in the presence of concerned authorities after obtaining a proper destruction certificate from the Executive Magistrate First Class Nowgam.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
