Srinagar, Feb 11: Human Welfare Voluntary Organization (HWVO) organised a five-day residential Facilitators’ Workshop on “Learning Adolescent Facilitation Skills” to strengthen the capacities of enrolled Gender Champions from across Jammu & Kashmir.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Tahir Masood, Program Director, aligning with HWVO’s broader objectives of adolescent development and community engagement.

The workshop focused on enhancing facilitation competencies required for meaningful, responsible and ethical engagement with adolescents. Participants underwent intensive training on key thematic areas including Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Health and Hygiene, Safety, Gender Dynamics, Visioning and Solidarity.

Organisers said the sessions aimed at holistic personality development by building emotional resilience, self-management skills and the ability to cope with stress and anxiety.

The training methodology emphasised experiential learning, reflective practice and participatory approaches. Through structured activities and guided discussions, Gender Champions gained deeper insights into adolescent realities, social contexts and power dynamics, equipping them to conduct sessions with empathy, confidence and accountability.

A key highlight of the workshop was the use of the UNICEF-developed localized Adolescent Engagement Toolkit under Project Ehtiyaat, which will be utilised at the community level to ensure uniform and rights-based facilitation practices.

The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Fozia, Ms. Sabahat, Ms. Nazima, Ms. Suraya, Mr. Aijaz and Mr. Irfan Jaffar, who conducted practical exercises on communication skills, group processes, facilitation ethics and community responsiveness.

The workshop was also attended by UNICEF Child Protection Specialist Mr. Hilal Bhat and other UNICEF consultants, who shared global best practices and approaches for adolescent engagement.

The vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Gulrez Ahmad Khan, General Secretary, HWVO.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Feroze Ahmad, Chief Functionary HWVO, reiterated the organisation’s mission of building youth capacities and enabling stakeholders to co-create community-based solutions aligned with the developmental vision for Jammu & Kashmir.

A felicitation ceremony was also held during the programme. Participants were awarded certificates upon successful completion of the workshop. Ms. Mehjabeen Nabi, recently honoured by the Union Territory of J&K on January 26, was felicitated. Mr. Sarwar Maqbool appreciated the initiative, while Advocate A.R. Hanjura, Chairman IRRT, chaired the felicitation session.

Organisers said the initiative marks a significant step toward developing a cadre of skilled and socially responsive facilitators committed to promoting adolescent well-being across Jammu & Kashmir.
