Baramulla, Oct 21: Amid a growing job crisis in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, young people are leaving no stone unturned to become self-reliant. Many are stepping forward to launch their own ventures and create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.
Among them, young women are emerging as a driving force. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with their male counterparts, they are taking the lead in various fields. Whether in sports or entrepreneurship, they continue to prove their mettle and achieve remarkable success.
There was a time when most families believed their daughters should only work in secure government jobs. However, that perception is gradually changing. Today, parents are increasingly supportive of their daughters’ ambitions, encouraging them to pursue their dreams without hesitation.
One such inspiring example is Marifat Jan, a young woman who decided to take charge of her future through entrepreneurship after completing her studies. Her journey stands as a powerful motivation for other girls, showing that if she can build her own path, so can they.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, Marifat said, “After completing my degree in naturopathy, I made a conscious choice not to wait for a government job. I didn’t want to waste time waiting; I wanted to create my own opportunities and become self-reliant while serving my community.
Alhamdulillah, with my family’s support, I opened a café in Veerwan, Baramulla, where I am now able to employ five other young girls.”
She added, “My aim is clear: to promote women’s empowerment and inspire those who have become disheartened or set their dreams aside.
I see so many girls with immense potential held back by societal pressures. Through this café, run entirely by women, I am building confidence and showing them they can chart their own path to success. I want to tell every girl: you can continue your education and still create something meaningful. True empowerment begins when you start creating opportunities for others.”
Managed entirely by women, Marzina Bites & Brews has quickly become a favorite among locals, drawing crowds eager to enjoy good food in a welcoming atmosphere.

The café has earned particular praise for its authentic taste and high hygienic standards, providing a trusted dining option amid public concern over food quality following a recent rotten meat scandal.
Looking ahead, with winter approaching, owner Marifat plans to add traditional Kashmiri Harissa to the menu, offering customers a taste of regional comfort during the cold months.
