HKM College Hosts Drug De-Addiction Awareness Programme under NMBA

Bandipora, April 8: Hassan Khoyihami Memorial (HKM) Degree College Bandipora on Wednesday organised a one-day Drug De-Addiction Awareness Programme under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

            An official spokesperson said the programme was held under the guidance of Principal Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra. The programme was conducted by the NCORD Cell of the college in collaboration with the Excise Department, Youth Services & Sports Department and Health Department of District Bandipora.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from college students as well as students from various Higher Secondary Schools of the district, who delivered eloquent speeches reflecting awareness and social responsibility.

The proceedings were moderated by Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Head, Department of Kashmiri. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. G.M. Khan, who highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse and stressed the need for collective efforts to curb the menace.

Student speakers deliberated on various aspects of drug addiction, including its root causes, harmful consequences and preventive measures. Their thoughtful presentations added depth and vibrancy to the awareness drive.

Officials from the Excise Department distributed informative pamphlets among participants, outlining the harmful effects of substance abuse and its legal implications. Students associated with the Youth Services & Sports Department also participated actively, reinforcing youth engagement in social causes.

A key highlight of the programme was an expert lecture by Dr. Reyaz Zulfi from the Health Department, who elaborated on the physical and mental health impacts of drug abuse and emphasised early intervention and community participation.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Sadaf Shafi, who acknowledged the contributions of collaborating departments, resource persons, faculty members and students in making the programme successful.
