Bandipora, June 20: The Mushtaq Memorial Intra-College Cricket Tournament commenced at the Sports Ground of HKM Degree College Bandipora.
Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Masood Ahmed Malik formally inaugurated the tournament that is being played in memory of a young college employee Mushtaq Ahmad Parray who passed away earlier this year due to cardiac arrest.
Dr. Malik interacted with the players and appreciated them for taking part in sports activities to keep themselves mentally and physically fit.
He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and fair play and urged the youngsters to utilize their leisure time in productive activities like sports.
The Principal said the government has launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign across the country. He said activities like sports help youth to stay away from drugs. He urged the students to ensure nobody falls in this death trap.
He said the tournament aims to honour Late Parray’s contribution to the college and celebrate his passion for cricket.
The Media Secretary of the College said that six college teams from various departments are taking part in the tournament. The tournament will continue over the next two weeks.
The opening ceremony held at the College ground marked the official commencement of the tournament.
On the occasion a moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the late member.
The opening ceremony was followed by the first contest of the tournament between Wullar-II and Razdan Caps which was full of energy, tensions and surprises.
The contest was won by the Razdan Caps by six runs.
Officials said the tournament will continue over the next couple of weeks with the promises to captivate and entertain all those involved.
