HKM College Bandipora Hosts District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026

Bandipora, Feb 02: Hassan Shah Khuehami Memorial (HKM) Degree College Patushai Bandipora Organised the District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament on February 26, 2026.

An official spokesperson said the event, held with great enthusiasm and fervour, provided a vibrant platform for students from across the district to deliberate on the critical theme: “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.”

The occasion was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Adv. Nizam Uddin Bhat Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bandipora. “His presence underscored the importance of nurturing democratic values and encouraging civic engagement among the youth,” spokesperson said.

The proceedings commenced with a warm welcome address by the Worthy Principal of the college, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra. In his address, Prof. Dogra extended a heartfelt welcome to the dignitaries, faculty, and students.

He lauded the personal interest taken by the MLA Bandipora and the proactive support of the district administration in the overall development of the college. He encouraged the participating students to make the most of this opportunity, describing the Youth Parliament as a powerful medium for them to articulate their views and shape their understanding of the nation’s political fabric.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Adv. Nizam Uddin Bhat, commended the institution for organizing this significant event. He emphasized the importance of providing young minds with a platform to discuss the state and its political systems, stating that such engagements are crucial for a healthy democracy.

Reflecting on the theme, he shared his perspectives on the Emergency period and its enduring lessons, urging the younger generation to become vigilant, informed, and proactive citizens who can serve as a potent force for positive change in society.

The core of the event featured over 35 powerful and thought-provoking speeches delivered by participants from various colleges across the district, including GDC Hajin, GDC Sumbal, GDC Ajas, and the host college, HKM GDC Bandipora. The young speakers passionately presented their analyses and viewpoints on the historical event and its contemporary relevance to Indian democracy.

The performances were meticulously evaluated by a carefully selected jury comprising prominent local figures and artists known for their contributions to the region’s intellectual and cultural landscape.

The distinguished jury members included Mr. Faisal Dar, Padma Shri Awardee, Mr. Mohammad Rafiq Parrey, former Principal GGHSS Bandipora, Mr. Faroze Ahmad, Advocate, District Court Bandipora, Dr. Mubashir Hamid Mir, Assistant Professor (Physics) and Mr. Mohammad Afzal Shahi, writer, poet and artist.

After careful deliberation and consideration of the speakers’ oratory skills, depth of content, and articulation, the jury selected the top ten performers. These outstanding students will now have the honour of representing the Bandipora district at the prestigious State Level Youth Parliament. All top performers were felicitated with certificates of merit by the dignitaries present, acknowledging their exceptional talent and dedication.

The event was a testament to meticulous planning and execution. It was skillfully coordinated by the Programme Coordinator, Prof. Bilquees Rasool War, who ensured the smooth flow of activities. She was ably supported by the dedicated team of College NSS Programme Officers. The day-long proceedings were conducted with eloquence and precision by the moderator, Dr. Ghulam Mohammad Khan.

The formal proceedings concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay, who expressed gratitude to the guests, jury members, participating students, and the entire college staff for their collective effort in making the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament a resounding success.
