Helicopter service eases woes of Gurez residents

Bandipora, Feb 07: After recent heavy snowfall and road closure in Gurez valley of North Kashmir's Bandipora district, the administration has started Helicopter service from Bandipora to Gurez to airlift the people during necessary times

The district Administration Bandipora starts the service every year in view of road closure after snowfall in winters aimed to bring relief to the peoples who visit the Gurez valley during winter. 

Anwar Khan, a local resident while speaking with the Kashmir convener said that they are thankful to the Administration for starting it early after recent heavy snowfall in the region.

He also said that the service will give a sigh of relief to the patients, who have been referred from CHC Dawar to other hospitals.

Another local resident Zaheer Ahmad, from Bagtore village of Gurez valley thanked the District Administration for airlifting patients and giving them priority first.

"The service will save many lives in case of emergency,".

Patiently to mention after fresh snowfall the 84 km Gurez-Bandipora road has been closed for vehicular movement. The authorities have said that snow clearance work is going on from both sides of the road.

The high passes of Razdan which is on the elevation of 12000 feet above sea level had received 6-7 feets of snowfall which led to the closure of Gurez-Bandipora road.

"The road earlier remains cut with the other parts for around 3-4 months, this year we remain connected till January due to the dry winter. The helicopter service is much needed service in winters for patients, students and passengers," another local resident added.

Meanwhile an official said that 34 passengers have been airlifted from Bandipora-Gurez today, similarly 34 have been airlifted from Gurez-Bandipora.

"Will do every possible effort to keep the service intact, so that people, especially patients, do not suffer," he added.
