Bandipora: Heavy rains on Friday triggered flash flood-like conditions in the SK Bala and Doudwan areas of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, blocking the main road and several link roads, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters.
Officials said that incessant rainfall led to flash floods, washing debris, mud and uprooted trees onto roads in Doudwan and Malpora during the early hours of the day. The heavy downpour also heightened the risk of landslides, resulting in road blockades at several locations.
Soon after receiving information, a police team led by DO Ajas, Araf Ahmad, rushed to the affected areas and, with the assistance of local residents, removed the accumulated debris and uprooted trees, restoring traffic movement within hours.
An official said that SSP Bandipora is personally monitoring the situation and that police teams have been deployed to keep a close watch on vulnerable areas to ensure the safety of residents living near the hill slopes. He added that round-the-clock monitoring is underway in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Traffic on the affected roads was restored after the debris was cleared, while authorities have advised commuters to remain cautious as rainfall continues in the region.
