Hayihama Residents in Kupwara Raise Concerns Over Poor Mobile, Internet Connectivity

Kupwara, March 18: Residents of Bungam Hayihama village in Kupwara district have raised concerns over poor mobile network and internet connectivity, alleging that inadequate telecom services are affecting daily life and essential services in the area.
Locals said that network coverage provided by telecom operators, including Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, remains inconsistent, with frequent disruptions and weak signals limiting access to basic communication.
Residents reported that the issue has particularly affected students, who are unable to access online educational resources, download study material or stay connected with academic platforms. Some families said they have been compelled to send their children outside the area for education due to lack of reliable internet services.
The connectivity issues have also impacted access to online banking, government services and emergency communication, residents said. They added that despite repeated concerns, the problem has persisted without significant improvement.
“We are facing difficulty even in making basic calls. Students have to move from one place to another in search of a signal,” a local resident said.
Another resident said that subscribers continue to pay for services that are not consistently available, adding that the situation has become a concern for the entire village.
Residents have appealed to the authorities to intervene and ensure that telecom operators take necessary steps to improve network infrastructure in the area. They also expressed willingness to cooperate with service providers, including offering land for installation of mobile towers to address the issue.
Officials were urged to assess the situation and take measures to improve connectivity in the village to ensure access to communication services and digital facilities.
The residents said that improved telecom services are essential for education, access to government schemes and overall development of the area.
