Handwara Girl Wins Gold in National Archery Championship
Srinagar, Feb 02: In a remarkable achievement, 8-year-old Fazeelat Aslam from Handwara, a town in north Kashmir, clinched the gold medal in the 13th & 14th National Field Indoor Archery Championship 2023-24 held in Pune, Maharashtra.
Representing Jammu & Kashmir, Fazeelat emerged victorious in the under 10-year age category, securing the top position with an impressive score of 58 points.
The championship, hosted at Rajaram Bhiku Pathare Stadium in Pune, witnessed participation from more than 250 contestants hailing from 15 different states and Union Territories.
Fazeelat's journey to success was undoubtedly fueled by her dedication and skill, but she credits much of her triumph to the unwavering support of her family. Expressing gratitude, she acknowledged the crucial role played by her parents in providing both mental and moral support throughout her archery journey. The young prodigy, now residing in Humhama, emphasized that her feat of winning the gold medal wouldn't have been possible without the backing of her loved ones.
Notably, the championship, which commenced on February 1st, is set to conclude on February 4th, showcasing the talents of young archers from across the nation. Fazeelat's victory serves as a source of pride for Jammu & Kashmir, as she proudly represented the state on the national stage.
Alongside Fazeelat, another budding talent from J&K made waves in the competition. Zain Bin Hanan, hailing from Kanipora, secured a silver medal in the Barebow Compound category for the under 10-year age group. This double triumph for the region highlights the emerging prowess of young athletes and underscores the importance of nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
