Srinagar, October 1: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and former minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has urged the administration to put in place comprehensive arrangements for the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA) at Charar-i-Sharief, beginning October 7.

In a statement, Yaseen said thousands of devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir were expected to visit the shrine and called for adequate arrangements for their safety, convenience and smooth movement.

He stressed coordination among the concerned departments, including the Traffic Police, Roads and Buildings, Jal Shakti, Power Development Department, Health Department and local municipal bodies.

Yaseen called for a detailed traffic management plan around Charar-i-Sharief and urged the administration to deploy additional passenger buses on major routes, particularly Srinagar–Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam–Charar-i-Sharief and Pulwama–Charar-i-Sharief.

He also called for special sanitation and cleanliness drives in and around the shrine premises, including prayer halls, ablution areas, roads and adjoining localities. He suggested deploying dedicated teams for regular cleaning throughout the Urs period.

The PDF president further urged the administration to ensure uninterrupted drinking water and electricity supply and adequate healthcare facilities. He suggested setting up first-aid and medical assistance camps at strategic locations along routes leading to Charar-i-Sharief to respond to emergencies.

Yaseen also called for ensuring proper road connectivity and removing obstructions that could hamper the movement of devotees.

Describing the annual Urs of Sheikh-ul-Aalam, revered as Alamdar-e-Kashmir, as an event of spiritual and cultural significance, Yaseen appealed to local residents, shopkeepers and community members to cooperate with the administration in maintaining cleanliness, discipline and the sanctity of the shrine.

He also prayed for peace, prosperity and the well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
