Bandipora, 24, KNT: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) restored traffic on the Gurez-Bandipora road on Sunday morning after an overnight clearance operation.
The vital mountain route had been blocked by landslides triggered by a cloudburst on Saturday evening.

Officials told Kashmir News Trust that heavy rainfall led to landslides at multiple spots, leaving several vehicles stranded. BRO immediately pressed bulldozers and earthmovers into service and launched a massive clearance drive.

Despite continuous rain and difficult conditions, the road was reopened around 5:00 am, allowing only stranded vehicles to move towards their destinations.

The cloudburst impact was also felt in nearby villages, including Kanzalwan and Korulbal, where gushing waters caused temporary flooding. Many families shifted to safer places overnight but returned home on Sunday morning after water levels receded.

Meanwhile, light snowfall was reported at Razdan Pass on Saturday evening, accompanied by widespread rain across the region, resulting in a dip in temperatures.

Authorities have advised commuters to confirm from given control room numbers before starting  their journey and advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to drive cautiously as the stretch remains prone to fresh landslides.

The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate precipitation in the higher reaches of north Kashmir over the next 24 hours.[KNT]
