AWANTIPORA, June 19: The All Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Conference was held at Town Hall Awantipora on Friday, bringing together a large number of community members, intellectuals, social activists and prominent personalities from across Jammu and Kashmir.

The conference was attended by several distinguished guests, including Director Tribal Affairs Shamim Ahmad Choudhary, former Minister and Patron-in-Chief of the Gujjar Bakerwal Conference Ejaz Ahmad Khan, Conference President Haji Yousuf Gorsi, General Secretary Choudhary Mohammad Yaseen Poswal, and Tehsildar Awantipora Shakeel Ahmad, among others.

The event served as a significant platform for deliberating on issues concerning the Gujjar Bakerwal community, with discussions focusing on education, socio-economic development, youth empowerment, social awareness and community unity.

Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the challenges faced by the community, including educational backwardness, unemployment, limited access to opportunities and the need for greater representation in developmental initiatives. They stressed the importance of collective efforts to address these concerns and improve the overall socio-economic condition of the community.

The speakers underscored that education remains the most effective tool for empowerment and urged parents to prioritize the education of their children, particularly those living in remote and tribal areas. They observed that the future progress and prosperity of the Gujjar Bakerwal community depend largely on an educated, skilled and socially aware younger generation.

Emphasising the role of youth in shaping the future, the speakers encouraged young members of the community to take active leadership roles and contribute towards social reform, community development and public welfare. They also highlighted the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage and identity of the Gujjar Bakerwal community while embracing modern educational and professional opportunities.

During the conference, participants discussed the importance of strengthening unity among community members to safeguard their constitutional rights and ensure that government welfare schemes and developmental benefits reach deserving beneficiaries at the grassroots level.

The gathering concluded with a collective pledge to continue working for the upliftment of the Gujjar Bakerwal community through awareness programmes, educational initiatives and sustained public engagement.

Participants described the conference as a constructive and encouraging initiative and expressed hope that such platforms would continue to promote community solidarity, address pressing issues and strengthen the voice of the Gujjar Bakerwal people across Jammu and Kashmir.
