Grand Opening ceremony of Major Gopi Singh Rathore Memorial North Kashmir Football Championship organized at SK Stadium Bandipora
Bandipora, Nov 02: The 14th-Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Watlab Sector on Monday organized a grand opening ceremony of Major Gopi Singh Rathore Memorial North Kashmir Football Championship at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Bandipora.
An official spokesperson said 12 teams from Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora districts are participating in the tournament to fight for the title of North Kashmir Football Champions.
The much awaited tournament started with a Grand Opening Ceremony in which Col Pranav Joshi, Commanding Officer, 14 Rashtriya Rifles welcomed all the teams and team colours were distributed to all the 192 players participating in the tournament. The teams were divided into four pools and on the first day total of four league matches were conducted.
The first match was won by 14 RR by 1-0 against 21 RR. The second match was won by 27 RR against 30 RR while the third match was declared draw by 3-3 between 32RR and 28 RR. Fourth Match was won by 47 RR by 2-0 against 29 RR.
Officials said an electrifying atmosphere was evident with a gathering of more than one thousand spectators and their loud cheers for respective teams. Teams displayed impeccable sportsmanship, team spirit and do or die attitude. “The cheering of the crowd was a sight to watch and it was their loud support which led to their teams putting their best foot forward,” spokesperson said. The effort of Indian Army for organizing such a huge event is being appreciated by all and the tournament has already become the talk of the town, he aded.
