Srinagar, Oct 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) has announced an amnesty scheme for domestic electricity consumers, allowing them to clear outstanding arrears with certain benefits.
The details were revealed in a written reply to MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, during the ongoing Autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
According to the official response, a copy of which is with Kashmir Convener, the scheme was introduced through Government Order No. 114-JKPDD on August 4, 2025. Consumers have been given ample time until March 31, 2026, to settle their arrears and avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits.
The government’s reply stated that to ensure widespread public awareness, the department has launched an extensive publicity campaign through both print and social media platforms, detailing the advantages and conditions of the amnesty scheme.
In addition to the media campaign, public awareness camps were conducted at the Sub-Division level to educate consumers about the initiative.
To facilitate transparency, separate printed bills—one for the amnesty amount and another for the regular electricity charges—are being delivered to every eligible consumer.
The government has reported significant progress, with a total of 18,854 cases already resolved under the scheme.
The reply further provided a breakdown of the resolved cases: 547 cases for JPDCL (Jammu) and 18,307 cases for KPDCL (Kashmir).
