GHSS Mantrigam Celebrates World Environment Day with Awareness Activities, Plantation Drive

Bandipora, June 5: Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Mantrigam celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and staff, in line with the directions of the Chief Education Officer, Bandipora.

The programme was organized by the school’s Eco Club in collaboration with the Sports Wing. The event was presided over by Principal Mohammad Iqbal Magray, while Lecturer and In-charge Eco Club, Iftikhar Rashid Wani, coordinated the activities under the guidance of Sports Wing officials.

The celebration commenced with a keynote address by Iftikhar Rashid Wani, who highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living. This was followed by a seminar on environmental issues in which a large number of students participated.

In the seminar competition, Amanat Sofia of Class 12th secured first position, while Soliha of Class 12th and Aatira Jan of Class 11th secured second and third positions, respectively. The competition was judged by Senior Lecturer Gowhar Khalid Baba and teacher Burhan-ul-Hassan.

A painting competition was also organized, attracting enthusiastic participation from students who creatively expressed their environmental concerns through artwork. Arya Jan of Class 9th was adjudged the winner, followed by Rutba Shafi of Class 11th, Haleema of Class 10th and Seerat Mushtaq of Class 10th. The competition was evaluated by Nazima Kounser and Mehreen.

As part of the celebrations, an environmental awareness rally was conducted through the main areas of Mantrigam. Students carrying placards and raising slogans highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, cleanliness and sustainable practices.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mohammad Iqbal Magray appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers and emphasized the vital role of youth in building a sustainable future. He urged everyone to adopt eco-friendly habits and contribute towards environmental protection.

The programme concluded with a pledge to preserve and protect the environment, followed by a tree plantation drive within the school premises. A felicitation ceremony was also held, during which winners of various competitions were awarded certificates and mementoes in recognition of their achievements.
