GHS Plan Students Visit KHEP to Learn Science Beyond Classrooms

Bandipora, Sept 20: Government Girls High School (GHS) Plan, Bandipora on Saturday organised an educational science tour to the Kishanganga Hydro Electric Power Project (KHEP) in Bandipora, offering students a rare opportunity to witness hydropower generation up close and understand its role in sustainable development.

A group of students, accompanied by teachers, toured the power project site where officials of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) who arfe managing the project, explained the working of turbines, water management systems, and renewable energy processes.

The sessions enabled students to connect their classroom lessons in physics, environmental science, and engineering with real-world applications.

The students actively engaged with officials, asking questions about the functioning of the plant, safety protocols, and environmental safeguards undertaken by NHPC. They also observed technical operations, gaining insights into the significance of energy conservation and the importance of renewable energy in meeting India’s growing power needs.

Cultural coordinator of the school, Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Lone, highlighted the value of such experiential learning. “Educational tours develop curiosity, critical thinking, and practical exposure among students. They inspire young minds to pursue careers in science and technology,” he said.

The Headmaster of GHS Plan lauded the initiative, extending gratitude to NHPC authorities for their cooperation and hospitality. He stressed that school–industry collaborations help nurture future innovators by bridging the gap between theory and practice.

The visit concluded with students sharing their joy and gratitude for the enriching experience, describing the day as a memorable blend of learning and discovery.
