GGHSS Bandipore Celebrates 5 Years of NEP 2020 with Cultural Flair, Tech Innovation

Bandipore, July 29: Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Bandipore on Monday celebrated 5th anniversary of the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with a series of vibrant, student-centric events on its campus.

An official spokesperson said  the celebrations brought together students, teachers, and community stakeholders in a showcase of innovative educational practices, reflecting the key themes of NEP 2020—Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability, and Accountability.

The day-long programme commenced with thought-provoking debates and panel discussions, where students and faculty shared insights on how NEP 2020 has redefined the educational landscape.

Speaking on the occasion Principal Javid Ahmad Magray, while addressing the gathering, said the 5th anniversary of NEP 2020 is a milestone for their institution. “Our teachers and students have wholeheartedly embraced the vision of the policy, and today’s event is a testimony to our commitment to nurturing creativity, inclusivity, and real-world readiness. We are moving beyond textbooks to create thinkers and problem solvers,” he said.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from parents, local educators, and officials from the education department, who appreciated the school’s proactive implementation of the policy.

On the occasion the institution reaffirmed its pledge to continue driving NEP 2020’s core principles, ensuring that every girl student in Bandipore receives a quality education that prepares her for the future.

Students spoke on how the policy’s emphasis on Access is helping bridge the learning gap, especially for girls in underserved areas.

Discussions on Equity focused on inclusion and catering to diverse learning needs, while participants highlighted Quality through experiential learning, skill development, and technology integration.

Affordability was touched upon with reference to the school’s initiatives like free resources, scholarships, and community support, while Accountability was discussed through examples of participatory learning, progress tracking, and school-community partnerships.

The celebrations also included a colourful cultural programme where students performed traditional Kashmiri folk dances, skits, and musical pieces representing the diverse cultural fabric of India.

These performances reinforced NEP’s call for integrating local culture, art, and heritage into the curriculum to foster national pride and cultural understanding.

A student-led art exhibition attracted admiration from visitors with paintings, digital art, and eco-friendly crafts created around themes like innovation, sustainability, and identity. The exhibit echoed the policy’s push for nurturing creativity and expression in the classroom environment.

Another major highlight of the event was the display of innovative projects by students from the school’s Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL). Several models on smart home automation, sustainable agriculture using IoT, and environment monitoring systems were presented.

The ATL corner, buzzing with curiosity, exemplified NEP 2020’s emphasis on STEM education, critical thinking, and hands-on learning. Students not only demonstrated their prototypes but also explained their applications in addressing real-world problems.

The celebration further featured initiatives aligned with NEP’s holistic learning approach, including demonstrations of ‘Bagless Days’, interactive learning models, and progress cards designed to capture overall development rather than just academic scores.

Students also shared their experiences of internships with local artisans and entrepreneurs, a step toward integrating vocational education at the school level.

Spokesperson said Government Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipore is widely recognised as a leading institution promoting inclusive and innovative education in north Kashmir. “As a proud implementer of NEP 2020, the school continues to lead by example in transforming classrooms into vibrant learning ecosystems,” he added.
