GGHSS Bandipora Students Unveil IoT-Based ‘SmartFlock’ Project for Livestock Management

Innovative ATL Prototype Showcased Before Minister at Historic Nishat Park

Bandipora, July 31: In a remarkable demonstration of student-led innovation, three students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Bandipora on Thursday presented their Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project — SmartFlock — to the Minister Satish Sharma during a special event held at Nishat Park, Bandipora.

The event was organized to commemorate the successful saturation of six key indicators under the Sampoornata Abhiyan, launched on July 1, 2024, as part of the Aspirational Block Programme (ABP) of NITI Aayog.

Earlier Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma, presided over the Sampoornata Samman Samaroh and inaugurated the week-long Aakanksha Haat at Nishat Park, Bandipora.

The project, developed by Class 10 students Zarqa, Sobiya, and Fiza under the mentorship of Mr. Rajkumar, is a smart livestock management system that uses IoT (Internet of Things) sensors and data analytics to track the health, location, and wellbeing of animals. The system is aimed at promoting sustainable farming and improving livestock care, especially in rural settings.

Principal Javid Ahmad Magray said the initiative reflects the core spirit of ATL, which is to nurture innovation and problem-solving abilities among school students. “SmartFlock is a shining example of how our youth are applying science and technology to address grassroots challenges,” he remarked.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Nishat Park, a public garden established in 1954 under the leadership of then Prime Minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, the event was attended by district officials, teachers, students, and members of the local community.

The Minister lauded the student innovators for their vision and technological skill. “Projects like SmartFlock prove that our young minds are ready to lead the way in bringing transformative solutions to rural India,” the Minister said, calling the presentation “inspiring and forward-thinking.”

Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, praised the project’s potential real-world application and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to nurturing student talent. “Bandipora is fast emerging as a knowledge and innovation hub,” he said, referencing the district’s traditional emphasis on A’lim (knowledge), Adab (literature), and Aab (water).

Chief Education Officer (CEO), Bandipora, also attended the event and presented certificates of appreciation to the three student participants for their outstanding work and confident demonstration.

The ATL at GGHSS Bandipora continues to be a beacon for scientific inquiry and creativity in the region, encouraging students — particularly girls — to explore the frontiers of technology for social good.
