Pampore, April 2: The Geology and Mining Department launched a major drive against illegal mining in the Litterbal area of Pampore in Pulwama district.
The operation was carried out in the presence of the District Mineral Officer, Pulwama, while the Joint Director, Kashmir, also paid a surprise visit to the area to assess the situation and address complaints related to illegal mining activities.
During the drive, officials destroyed multiple illegal ramps allegedly being used for unauthorized extraction of minerals. Fines were also imposed on several sand depots found violating mining regulations.
As part of the enforcement action, one vehicle was seized in the Galander area of Pampore, while penalties were also collected from sand dumps operating in violation of norms.
Officials told Kashmir Convener the drive had been underway since Tuesday and was aimed at curbing illegal mining and ensuring strict implementation of mining laws in the area.
