Bandipora, Feb 28: As part of Electoral Literacy Club, the government degree college (GDC) Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district organized an awareness program on the theme “Importance of Voting in Democracy”.
A spokesperson said that the program was organized under the aegis of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Program) and was conducted under the patronage of worthy college Principal Prof. (Dr) Shabeena Iqbal Shawl.
"Voting is not just a right but also a responsibility that every citizen should embrace. Active participation in the electoral process helps uphold democracy, promote inclusive governance, and contribute to a prosperous and harmonious society," he said.
"As voting is the cornerstone of democracy and plays a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of a country, the program was intended to build a truly participative democratic character among students and encouraging them to vote and make an informed decision during the elections," he added.
Dr Mehraj Uddin Gojree, HOD Political Science spoke about the importance of electoral literacy to sensitize students on their electoral rights and familiarize them with the electoral process of registration and voting.
He also highlighted the importance of voting, how to get a voter ID card, who is eligible to vote, and the significance of making informed choices.
The event was concluded with question answer session which made the event more informative and interesting.
