GDC Hajin Hosts Seminar on ‘Worth of Books in the Worst Times’
Hajin, May 21: The Debates & Seminar Committee of Government Degree college Hajin Wednesday organised a day-long seminar on the theme, Worth of Books in the Worst Times in the seminar hall of the college.
An official spokesperson of the college said the seminar was organised under the patronage of the Principal Prof (Dr.) Gazala Firdous and was attended by students & faculty members of the college.
While speaking during the inaugural session, the Principal deliberated upon the importance of books in our lives as counsels, guides, silent teachers and the repository of knowledge.
She further stressed that teachers and students should inculcate the spirit of reading and new learning that will not only transform our lives but also take us to the zenith of new knowledge, discovery and ultimate self-actualization.
In an another scintillating keynote address, Prof. (Dr.) Mehraj ud Din Parray engaged the audience in an imaginative journey towards the worth of books in the troubled times.
In his informative and engaged lecture, he mapped the miraculous role of books in the personal, social & economic growth of each successful individual.
Similarly, Dr. Fayrooz Ahmad Mir presented a paper on the pleasures & Plight of Book, making it as the narrator of the nameless graces and the current pathetic condition. “His presentation not only filled the audience with the emotional ecstasy but also instilled the love for reading in the tender student souls,” spokesperson added.
In the student speech sessions, the students- Miss Tabusum Mushatq, Miss Nusrat Ayoob, Miss Abida Akhter, Miss Abida Ramzan and Miss Nadia Ali presented their speeches on the immense importance of books in the worst times. They were given participation certificates.
The first session of the seminar was moderated by 6th semester student, Qazi Sharik Ashraf.
The second session of the seminar started with the panel discussion in which Prof. Nahida Nassem, Dr. Suhail Ahmad & Prof Javeed Ahmad acted as resource persons and represented the faculty of Education, Social Science & Humanities respectively.
They deliberated on the issues of recent reading trends, social reformation as well as aesthetic essence of books in the compelling contemporary times.
The discussion was lively and very interactive in which students and staff members raised various questions regarding the relevance of reading in the recent riddled times & digital age.
The students were provided light refreshment by the protocol committee of the college. The second session of the seminar was moderated by Dr. Fayrooz Ahmad Mir, Convenor Debates & Seminar Committee of the colleges while as Dr. Adnan Rashid from the department of Environmental Science proposed the vote of thanks.
