GDC Anantnag kicks off bootcamp on ‘Blockchain Technology’
NIELIT-GDC Anantnag collaboration to nurture innovation, promote future-ready skills, and empower students in the region to thrive in the global digital economy
Anantnag, 26 May 2025 – A one-week bootcamp on ‘Blockchain Technology’ was inaugurated today at Shaheed Himayun Muzzamil Memorial Government Degree College, Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir, a leading higher education institution of the Union Territory.
The program is being organized by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), J&K — a premier agency of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, — in collaboration with the Department of Computer Applications, Government Degree College, Anantnag.
“This state-of-the-art training initiative, conducted under the Future Skills PRIME Project—a joint effort of MeitY and NASSCOM—is designed to equip students with cutting-edge skills in one of the world’s fastest-evolving technologies,” said Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, Principal, GDC Anantnag, in his inaugural session. “The program aims to build capacity and enhance employability by bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demand.”
In his address, the principal emphasized the critical importance of upskilling in emerging domains like blockchain and highlighted how such initiatives can empower students to seize modern career opportunities and combat unemployment through skill-based education.
Welcoming the dignitaries and participants, Dr. Tawseef Ahmed Teli, the bootcamp Nodal Officer, outlined blockchain’s transformative potential across diverse fields, including digital payments, healthcare, and e-governance while emphasizing the growing industry demand for professionals trained in blockchain technology.
The bootcamp could potentially pave the way for various research opportunities for students, said Prof. Ab. Qayoom Sofi, Head of the Department of computer Applications, in his welcome address.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muzafar Rasool, Sr. Assistant Professor at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, while gracing the occasion as chief guest., praised the collaborative efforts of NIELIT and higher education institutions like GDC Anantnag.
“Partnerships like these should be a continuous endeavour to further strengthen the region’s skill ecosystem and the college should be at the forefront in fostering a tech-forward academic environment,” he said.
In his keynote address, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, Scientist-D/Joint Director at NIELIT J&K and chief investigator of Future Skills PRIME Project, presented an insightful overview of the bootcamp structure.
“This bootcamp training blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in blockchain fundamentals and real-world use cases,” he said. “Blockchain is revolutionizing industries by enabling unmatched transparency, security, and trust. From transforming finance and supply chains to securing digital identities and automating contracts, its real-world impact is accelerating. As global adoption surges, blockchain is fast becoming the foundation of next-generation digital innovation.”
The inaugural session was concluded by a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Irshad Ahmad Lone, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications. Following the inauguration, participants engaged in the first technical session conducted by expert trainers.
The hands-on modules provided foundational training in blockchain concepts and their applications across various industries.
The bootcamp witnessed enthusiastic participation of more than 150 participants, all eager to advance their skills in this transformative domain.
The five-day program will culminate in an assessment test, and participants meeting the qualifying standards will be awarded certificates of achievement.
