Bandipora, August 10:In a significant political development, Ab Majid Gojri, a former separatist leader and close associate of the late Syed Ali Shah Geelani, formally joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday evening. The joining ceremony took place at Kundji Mohalla, Vijpora Hajin, in the Sonawari area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
PDP senior leader and State Organising Secretary Yasir Reshi warmly welcomed Majid Gojri and others into the party fold. Expressing optimism over the development, Reshi stated, “Former separatist leaders embracing mainstream politics is a welcome sign. It shows that they now believe in the Constitution and democratic values of India. Their inclusion will strengthen the PDP at the grassroots level and help bridge the gap between the people and the political process.”
Yasir Reshi also took a swipe at the National Conference (NC), accusing the party of past electoral malpractices and authoritarian rule. “The rise of separatism in Kashmir is the direct result of the National Conference’s undemocratic actions during its rule,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Ab Majid Gojri declared his commitment to democratic principles and disassociation from separatist ideology. “Today, I have formally joined the PDP in the presence of Yasir Reshi Sahab. I want to make it clear that I no longer have any affiliation with any anti-national organization. I believe in the Indian Constitution and democracy — that is why I have decided to become part of the mainstream,” he stated.
Majid Gojri further said that his intention to serve the people through legitimate means. “Every legitimate aspiration can be fulfilled through democratic processes. I believe the PDP is the most effective platform to work for the rights and welfare of the people of Sonawari,” he added.
