In a literary function, held at Hotel Mahal in Budgam was a poignant blend of reminiscence, insightful commentary, and the enduring power of Budgami’s evocative verse
The function commenced with a warm welcome address by renowned poet, Shahbaz Hakhbari who lauded Budgami’s contribution to Kashmiri literature and his role as a cultural ambassador. This was followed by a heartfelt reading of some of Budgami’s most cherished poems by various eminent personalities.
The verses, imbued with Budgami’s signature blend of lyricism and profound observation, resonated deeply with the audience, transporting them to the vivid landscapes and emotions captured in his work.
The keynote address was delivered by chief guest Shahid Budgami (younger brother of Fariq Budgami) a renowned writer and literary figure shed light on Budgami’s unique literary voice, his mastery of language, and his ability to give voice to the experiences and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He spoke of Budgami’s commitment to social justice and his unwavering belief in the power of poetry to bridge divides and foster understanding.
The program also featured insightful reflections from a panel of distinguished speakers. Each speaker brought their own perspective to Budgami’s work, highlighting different facets of his genius and the enduring impact he has had on Kashmiri culture.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, where Basharat Hussain and Aijaz Hussain sons of Fariq Budgami expressed gratitude to all those who participated in the event to keep Budgami’s memory
alive. The event served as a fitting tribute to a literary giant, reminding everyone of the power of poetry to transcend time and touch the hearts and mindsof generations
