Srinagar, July 24: As the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35(A) approaches, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauds the significant achievements witnessed in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir over the last four years.

In an interview with DD News, LG Sinha highlighted several milestones achieved in the realms of security and development, attributing these successes to the bold decision taken by the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership on August 5, 2019, to abrogate Article 370 and 35(A).

Reflecting on the transformations at the grassroots level, LG Sinha emphasized the end of street violence and strike calls. He noted that the menace of street violence, once a recurring issue, has now become a thing of the past, and the common people are now enjoying a free and peaceful environment. These achievements, according to him, rank among the most significant accomplishments in the region during the last four years.

LG Sinha further elaborated on the developmental progress made, which includes the establishment of 2 AIIMS, 2 cancer hospitals, 7 medical colleges, IIT, IIM, NIFT, as well as various highway and tunnel projects valued at 1.50 lakh crore rupees.

He credited the improved coordination among security agencies for the positive changes, leading to the establishment of peace rather than merely seeking it through negotiations. Highlighting that the poor were the most affected by terrorism in the past, he emphasized the administration's efforts to prioritize their well-being.

The Union Territory also experienced a boost in tourist footfall, with over 1 crore 88 lac tourists visiting J&K last year. This surge has opened avenues for livelihood for hotels, taxi drivers, shikara operators, and others, stimulating the J&K economy. However, LG Sinha acknowledged the presence of mischievous elements attempting to run a parallel economy in the past, fostering militancy and separatism. He asserted that such activities would not be allowed in the present.

Addressing the issue of dynasticism and corruption, LG Sinha underscored the administration's commitment to transparency and performance. He emphasized J&K's impressive performance in E-Governance, where over 450 services have been made available online. Additionally, he shared that the completion of 92,600 developmental projects signifies substantial progress in this domain.

The successful implementation of the Three-tier Panchayati Raj System and the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting with massive participation are further indicators of the positive changes happening in the region.

Regarding the 'Land to Landless' scheme, LG Sinha clarified that while agricultural land cannot be purchased by non-domiciles, investments in industries, hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, and other infrastructure developments are highly encouraged. He highlighted the positive response from the people of Jammu and Kashmir to this decision.

On the employment front, the Union Territory has witnessed the creation of over 28,000 government jobs in the last three years, aimed at providing opportunities and empowering the youth. Mission Youth J&K, a dedicated department, has been set up to rehabilitate and support the young population in establishing their enterprises.

LG Sinha also addressed the concerns of Kashmiri Pandits, assuring that the J&K government is committed to resolving their issues. He cited schemes for 6000 jobs and 6000 houses for the community and explained that steps are being taken to fulfill these commitments.

Highlighting the potential of the film industry in the region, LG Sinha mentioned that efforts are underway to revitalize it. Filming is now taking place in tourist destinations, and cinemas are reopening to boost the tourism industry in J&K.

In response to a query about termination of employees, LG Sinha asserted that those who secured government jobs with the help of militants would be removed without compromise, citing the provision 311(c) that defines the services of individuals posing a threat to state and security.

As for assembly elections, LG Sinha clarified that the UT administration is fully prepared, but the decision lies with the Election Commission of India (ECI), which will announce the schedule. He reminded that the Home Minister had outlined a three-step process: delimitation, election, and statehood, and assured that the commitment made in Parliament would be fulfilled.

Turning to the Amarnath Yatra, LG Sinha described it as more than just a religious pilgrimage, as it showcases the culture of Jammu and Kashmir. This year, over 3.20 lac pilgrims have paid their respects at the holy cave, and the cooperation of all sections of society, particularly Kashmiri Muslims, has been instrumental in making the Yatra a success.

In conclusion, LG Sinha expressed his gratitude to all contributors and participants, congratulating them on their contributions to making the Yatra a resounding success.
