Jammu, Feb 03: Ehsaas, a Non Government Organisation in collaboration with Kargil development Project (KDP) today organized a Samanbal (interaction) in Jammu to discuss and deliberate on the issues and challenges confronted by the working women at family, society and work places.
The meeting was attended by members of Ehsaas and other like minded participants from different regions, religions and professional backgrounds, wherein threadbare discussion was made on the various issues pertaining to the working women at family, society and work places, and probable recommendations were floated to overcome those issues.
Ezabir Ali, Consultant KDP/Founder Secretary EHSAAS, while welcoming the participants gave an overview of the working of EHSAAS and Objective of framing SAMANBALs in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
During the discussion, members admitted that it has been seen that women working at home is the most neglected and ignored lot. Women are overburdened, but her work has never been acknowledged. They take care of children, manage the kitchen and also balance life at the office, but still she is unrecognized.
Members, through the forum of Ehsaas took pledge to recognize the contribution of women in the society. They said that there is a need to sensitize family members about the work pressure on women.
The group further stated that there is an impression created that women are meant to do family chores. Women are pushed into an unfortunate master-Servant relationship at home. She is coerced to believe that she is answerable, though not decisive, in all the home making.
The group also discussed issue of 'equal pay for equal work' in an unorganized sector and requested government and concerned agencies to introduce some policy for the welfare of women labours.
Prominent among those who attended the programme included, Indu Kilam, Advocate Supriya Singh Chouhan, Dr Poonam Sharma, Prof Shalini Rana, Manmeet Kaur, Advocate Deepika Mahajan, Simmi Rana, Ruchi Chouhan Khan, Naseem Shafaie and Advocate Pariksha Parmar.
The session ended with a note of thanks by senior member of Ehsaas, Rukshana Jabeen, who expressed gratitude to the participants for bringing forth some grave and severe issues confronted by the women and also identifying their probable redressal. She also thanked Ezabir Ali and the KDP team for extending support for making this event a success.
