Education Minister Orders Crackdown on Unregistered Coaching Centres and Textbook Overpricing

Srinagar, Nov 12: In a significant move to regulate the education sector, Education Minister Sakina Itoo has directed Chief Education Officers (CEOs) across Kashmir to immediately clamp down on unregistered coaching centres and the overpricing of school textbooks.

As per Kashmir Convener, Minister issued these directives during a review meeting held at the Civil Secretariat.

Minister Itoo as per this newspaper instructed the CEOs to conduct regular inspections of coaching centres to verify their registration status and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.

In a related directive, the Minister also ordered a stringent campaign against the sale of textbooks at inflated prices by private schools and agencies. She mandated routine checks on both schools and bookshops, calling for strict action against those found overcharging.

“Conduct routine checks on schools as well as bookshops and take stringent action against institutions and shops involved in selling textbooks at exorbitant rates,” the Minister stated.

To ensure compliance and standardisation across the region, Minister Itoo instructed the Director of School Education to issue a detailed order specifying the approved curriculum and textbooks. She directed all CEOs to implement this order in both letter and spirit, warning of appropriate action against any non-compliant schools.
