Dry grass around Pampore’s Chandara, Bagander wetlands catches fire, doused on time

PAMPORE, February 22: Fire erupted in standing dry grass at Chandhara and Bagander wetlands area of Pampore Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday evening.

The timely intervention of Fire and Emergency Service (F&ES) saved the home land of migratory birds at both wetlands.

The wetlands is home to many species of migratory birds from different Eurasian countries which visit here every year during winters.

As soon as they received information regarding fire incidents near Chandhara wetland and Bagander, fire and emergency services department Pampore team along with fire tender reached the spot within time and controlled the spread fire, officials said.

He said that timely intervention of fire and emergency services saved the approximately 100 kanals of land near Chandhara wetland from the major fire.

Later, another fire incident erupted in standing dry grass of cattail (typha) at Bagander wetland area of Saffron town Pampore.

Fire and Emergency Services In-charge Pampore Hai Zahoor Ahmad confirmed Kashmir Convener that fire incidents at Chandhara and Bagander wetlands and said that he received information that the fire erupted in standing dry grass near Chandhara and Bagander.

Soon after the information about the fire incidents, men and machinery immediately reached the spot and controlled the fire.
