DLSA Bandipora Settles 14 Cheque Bounce Cases in Special Lok Adalat

Bandipora, July 18: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bandipora, on Saturday organised a Special Lok Adalat for cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act (NIA), facilitating speedy and amicable resolution of pending cheque dishonour disputes.

The Special Lok Adalat was held under the supervision of Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority and Principal District & Sessions Judge, Bandipora, Ms. Jeema Bashir, and under the guidance of Secretary, DLSA Bandipora, Sheikh Babar Hussain. The initiative formed part of the nationwide campaign organised under the aegis of the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority to provide accessible, affordable and expeditious justice.

Four benches were constituted to hear and settle the referred cases through mutual compromise. The first bench was presided over by Chief Judicial Magistrate/Sub-Judge Bandipora, Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon, with Advocate Malik Mushtaq as member. The second bench was headed by Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee (Munsiff/JMIC) Bandipora, Amandeep Singh, with Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Shah as member.

The third bench was presided over by Munsiff/JMIC Bandipora, Ms. Rahila Rashid, with Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Hura as member, while the fourth bench was headed by Munsiff/JMIC Gurez, Ms. Mehak Mehboob, with Advocate Tajamul Islam serving as member.

During the Special Lok Adalat, a total of 73 cases relating to the Negotiable Instruments Act were taken up for consideration. Of these, 14 cases were amicably settled and disposed of through mutual agreement between the parties.

The settlements resulted in the award of a total compensation amount of ₹49.57 lakh to the aggrieved parties.

The DLSA said the Special Lok Adalat reflects the judiciary’s continued commitment to promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, reducing litigation, and ensuring timely justice through consensual settlements.
