Srinagar, Jan 19 ; The Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess and fortify arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations across the Union Territory.
According to Kashmir Convener, Senior police and security officials provided detailed briefings on intelligence inputs, current security deployments, and operational preparedness.
A senior officer informed Kashmir Convener that the meeting focused on formulating a multi-layered security strategy to safeguard public spaces, vital installations, and ensure incident-free events at all designated venues.
He said DGP Prabhat assigned specific operational responsibilities to officers, emphasising strict adherence to protocols. Key discussion points included crowd management, traffic regulation, actionable intelligence sharing, strategic deployment of forces, and enhanced protection of sensitive locations.
The Police Chief directed all District Superintendents of Police to maintain continuous surveillance of social media to prevent the circulation of misinformation and content likely to disrupt public order. He also instructed officers to intensify vigilance against anti-national elements and strengthen area domination exercises he said.
He added the Traffic Police Department was tasked with devising a detailed traffic management plan to ensure smooth movement for citizens and protected persons. Security measures for national highways, lateral roads, railway tracks, and stations were also thoroughly evaluated.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (Security), Kashmir, was directed to formulate and execute a robust security blueprint for the main Republic Day function venue, incorporating contingencies for all possible scenarios.
The meeting ended with a unanimous commitment from all attending agencies and departments to work in close coordination, ensuring peaceful and secure Republic Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir he added.
