Bandipora, April 06: The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, Bandipora, on Monday took strong exception to reports circulating on social media claiming that the Dardpora–Gabpathri road, which was blocked due to landslides, was restored by private individuals.
Executive Engineer R&B Bandipora, Shahid Saleem Lone, clarified that the road clearance and restoration were carried out by the department using its own manpower and machinery.
“The R&B Department took immediate action, cleared the debris and restored the road. However, it is being portrayed incorrectly in sections of the media,” he said.
Officials from the department alleged that there have been multiple instances in the district where routine government work is either misrepresented or credited to individuals unrelated to the planning and execution of the projects.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener, officials said that certain social media influencers are creating “misleading narratives” by distorting facts and attributing departmental work to “non-entities,” instead of acknowledging the role of the executing agency.
“We don’t want any credit or appreciation for our professional duties but at least our work should not be used for pity politics. Every other person takes credit of the works except the real ones who get the job done,” they added.
The officials appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to take appropriate action against those allegedly spreading misinformation and taking government departments for a ride, stating that such acts create confusion among the public and undermine the work of government departments.
