New Delhi, May 27: In a major boost to indigenous defence manufacturing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, to be carried out through an industry partnership led by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA).
The move is aimed at fostering a self-reliant aerospace ecosystem under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The approved model allows Indian companies—both from the public and private sectors—to participate on an equal footing. Bids can be submitted independently, or through joint ventures and consortia, provided the bidding entity is registered and compliant with Indian laws.
The AMCA project, seen as a crucial milestone in India’s defence modernization journey, will involve the development of a fifth-generation stealth fighter prototype, indigenously designed and developed.
ADA is expected to soon issue an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the AMCA Development Phase, inviting eligible industry partners to take part in this transformative initiative. The Ministry hopes the model will harness domestic technological expertise and manufacturing capacity to accelerate the creation of a world-class combat aircraft.
