Srinagar, January 21: The Civil Society members of the Valley have expressed concern over stereotyping of Kashmiri female students studying outside the valley by certain social media pages and have demanded action against such fringe elements.

Numerous videos have been circulating on social media in which clerics and some YouTubers are defaming Kashmiri girls studying outside the Valley.  This trend started when a fake call recording went viral and even after the recording was fake, YouTubers and scholars started name calling and stereotyping the students, especially females studying across the country.

“It's not a crime to have ice cream off campus, "said one student. “Such self styled religious preachers and Social Media Influencers should be jailed for such crimes”. When parents send their daughters out of the valley for education, people should be proud of such girls but instead people share a defamatory video titled 'What is happening outside Kashmir'.

What would have happened to such a father after watching such videos?    Some students appealed to the police to take cognizance of the matter and arrest those involved in defaming girls.

Talking to JK Students Association, Nasir Khuehami said that they are monitoring this development and shall file a formal complaint against all such people.
