Cupidity- The Love of Money
Owais Ahmad Bhat
Greediness is a situation which is the biggest curse for any human on this earth. The biggest of diseases have a cure but greed for excess wealth especially money is that disease which has no cure of its own and it is like a spider web in which if a human is stuck, he has no choice other than to dance to the tunes of it. There is an old proverb which works as a guide that too much greed is not a good sign. It is the root of all evils.
Anything that is in excess only causes problems. A person who earns too much never more compares his life to a poor person who does have talent as well but is unable to manage even the two times of meal. One should not worry about future; rather one should be certain that one's provision will come to one as Allah has predestined.
When a person who has recently joined a department, a company, an organization, etc expects progress in his life. If progress is achieved, it is meant that he has been bestowed by the God. But after a period of time he grows out to be too much greedy that even if his basic needs of life are being met at an ease, his desire for more and more wealth makes him the one who has no shy in piling up the resources. Greed and avarice are blameworthy flaws, creates such a surrounding that you are just forced to do what you would not have minded to do in your entire life. That's why one is always recommended to look at those who are poorer than oneself and do not look at those who are above you. If a person were to own a valley full of gold he would desire to have two.
When a person has insatiable desire for money, he will try his best to meet it by all means as it can provide him the temporary sense of joy or happiness. Greed in all religions is a sin especially when it comes to money. How can a person with meager amount of resources available is satisfied in his entire life, how can that person manages to feed the stomach of his family and negotiate the basic needs in order to break the chains of poverty? Yes that's true. A person must feel good with the resources available that God has given to him. Poverty is sometimes praise worthy especially when the poor person is contented with Allah has given him and does not pay attention to what others possess.
In conclusion cupidity is like a green and sweet fruit and whoever takes it, God will not bless it for him and he will be like the one who eats but is never satisfied.
