COVID-19 Assistance:  Rs 1.29 Cr disbursed among labourers in Bandipora

 Bandipora, March 30: Department of Labour on Monday disbursed an amount of Rs 1.29 Crore among Building and other construction workers as COVID-19 assistance announced by the Central Government recently besides education assistance.

        Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza said that an amount of Rs 81.76 lakh was distributed among 8169 registered labours  through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) as COVID-19 assistance amid lockdown.

        He said an amount of Rs 44.29 lakh was also transferred into the accounts of 596 beneficiaries as Education Assistance to the children of labours  while and amount of Rs 3.37 lakh was also disbursed among 28 labours  as disability and minor ailment assistance.

Deputy Commissioner said the money has been transferred in the shortest possible time so that the labours  who earn from hand to mouth don’t face any problem amid lockdown as all the businesses and construction works are at halt. He said the little contribution from the government will help in easing the problems of the labours  amid COVID-19 lockdown.

He said the district administration is  distributing food packets among the poor, needy and destitute amid the testing times for all the people. He said more than 1500 food packets have been distributed so far and hoped that all  deserving people are covered as soon as possible.

He also urged the labours to avail the benefit of various welfare schemes available for the welfare of the labours and appealed them especially the unorganised workers and labours to enroll themselves in the scheme launched by the government including PM-SYM. He said there are several other schemes for the labours including compensation in case of injury during work, financial assistance to the kids and other relevant schemes.
