Bandipora 06 May: Anger is brewing in Kaloosa village, located in North Kashmir's Bandipora district, over the supply of contaminated water by the Jal Shakti department.

The residents of the village have complained that they have been receiving impure and contaminated water for drinking and cooking purposes. Despite multiple complaints to the authorities concerned, they have not received any relief.

The water supplied is yellow in color, like Lipton tea without sugar, due to the high level of impurities. Some residents have water purifiers at home, but the majority of people do not have such facilities, leaving them with no option but to consume the unfiltered and contaminated water.

The locals have criticized the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for not ensuring uninterrupted and clean water supply and have demanded that the department make water available through tankers to mitigate the sufferings of the people. The PHE department employees have not made any alternate arrangements for providing clean water to the people.

An Assistant Executive Engineer from the PHE department has assured the residents that the department will look into their complaints and take appropriate action. He added that the water quality gets affected during rainfall in the area and directed the concerned JE to visit the area.
