Congress Leaders Pay Tribute to Former PM Manmohan Singh in Wuyan, Pampore

Pampore, January 2: Congress leaders gathered in Wuyan village, Pampore, South Kashmir, to pay homage to the late former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in a condolence meeting organized under the leadership of Pulwama District President Umar Jan and senior Congress leader Advocate Zameer Farooq Joo.

The program saw participation from senior party members, including Javaid Ahmad Magray, Youth Congress leader Shoaib Magray, the Mahila District President, and a large number of party workers, reflecting the high regard for Dr. Manmohan Singh’s legacy. Floral tributes were offered as leaders remembered his honesty and his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic policies.

Speaking at the event, District President Umar Jan highlighted Dr. Manmohan Singh’s visionary leadership and enduring contributions to India’s economic growth and inclusive development.

Advocate Zameer Farooq Joo emphasized the purpose of the meeting, stating it was held to honor the former Prime Minister’s contributions to the nation. He highlighted several initiatives spearheaded by Dr. Singh, including MNREGA, the Right to Information Act, the Right to Education Act, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, which collectively established a robust economic framework while safeguarding the vulnerable.

“Dr. Manmohan Singh introduced reforms that ensured India’s transformation into a high-growth economy, providing a safety net for marginalized sections of society,” Joo said.

District President Umar Jan praised Dr. Singh’s role in liberalizing India’s economy in the 1990s, which paved the way for rapid economic development. Recalling his tenure as Prime Minister (2004-2014), Jan lauded initiatives such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Right to Education Act, and the National Food Security Act, which significantly improved the lives of millions.

Jan also emphasized Dr. Singh’s commitment to peace, development, and elevating India’s global standing. “His integrity and humility serve as a role model for generations,” he added.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to uphold the values of integrity, development, and social welfare that Dr. Manmohan Singh embodied throughout his life and career.
