CM Omar Abdullah Unveils ₹84.41-Crore Development Package for Ganderbal

GANDERBAL, FEB 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday rolled out development projects worth ₹84.41 crore in Ganderbal constituency, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for works spanning healthcare, water supply, roads, sanitation and education.

The projects, executed across departments, include installation of a CT scan machine at the district hospital, a 4.5 MLD sewage treatment plant under SBM 2.0, three water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, town beautification works and multiple road upgrades.

At District Hospital Ganderbal, the Chief Minister inaugurated a CT scan machine installed at a cost of ₹8.4 crore under the Health & Medical Education Department, aimed at strengthening diagnostic facilities in the district.

In Rakhi Harran, he laid the foundation stone for a 4.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant costing ₹19.99 crore under the Used Water Management Project of the Municipal Council, expected to improve sanitation and environmental standards in the town.

At Beehama, Abdullah launched a ₹7.7 crore beautification and development project for Ganderbal town under the Housing & Urban Development Department. The project includes construction of an entry gate and municipal guest house, conversion of the municipal committee terminal building into a smart library, development of play areas and club facilities, street and pathway upgrades, installation of street lights and garbage bins, and façade improvements in the market.

He also laid the foundation stone for a ₹7.5 crore road project connecting the Bus Adda to the district hospital, including widening of Mirani Chowk to ease traffic congestion.

From Dak Bungalow, Abdullah e-inaugurated water supply schemes at Urpash Naderbagh (₹6.79 crore), Buderkund (₹3.99 crore) and Manasbal (₹1.3 crore), executed by the Rural Water Supply Division under the Jal Shakti Department.

The Chief Minister further e-laid foundation stones for road works worth ₹12.88 crore under the PWD, school infrastructure improvements amounting to ₹9.02 crore, upgradation of inner link roads at Treesa Safapora and Check Yangaroo in Lar (₹3.02 crore), and improvement of Kohistan Colony canal roads (₹3.79 crore).

Addressing a gathering, Abdullah said development “must translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of people,” adding that the focus would be on timely execution and quality outcomes rather than announcements alone.

He also distributed Mission Yuva disbursal letters worth ₹55 lakh among beneficiaries.

Later, the Chief Minister held a public interaction at Dak Bungalow, where delegations from several areas flagged issues including drinking water shortages, lift irrigation, sports infrastructure gaps, demand for a fire service station and school upgradation.

Health Minister Sakina Itoo and Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana were among those present, along with senior civil and police officials.
