Chugh calls Statehood resolution ‘fallen branch of a tree’

Srinagar, Oct 03: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh on Saturday dismissed the demand for a statehood resolution in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a “fallen branch of a tree” and insisting that full statehood requires no such measure. He also accused the National Conference and the Congress of evading accountability for their promises.

Speaking to reporters, according to Kashmir Convener, Chugh said, “I want to ask them, do you want to increase the attention of the people of J&K? Nothing more than this. For J&K to become a statehood, there is no need for a resolution. A resolution is a fallen branch of a tree.”

He alleged that the Congress and the NC were being forced to flee to save themselves from public anger. To give statehood, for that, the BJP promised. And the Prime Minister of the country has himself made a commitment to it in the Parliament,” he said. “A resolution is just an excuse to increase the attention of the people. The thing is, we will have to stop the old rags.

Targeting NC-led Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chugh said the people of Jammu and Kashmir would not be satisfied with “Al-Ghawab’s politics”.

The people of J&K ask for accountability from you. The people of J&K ask for accountability for your work. The people of J&K ask for accountability for your promises. The people of J&K ask for accountability for your manifestos,” he said. “Instead of accountability, how long will you play this game of resolution? How long will you keep people in their eyes?

Chugh claimed that Jammu and Kashmir is not the same as it was in the 1990s, asserting that the BJP was continuously moving forward in the region and had emerged as the protector of nationalism.

There are new members in the party. The party is growing in every field. The BJP is leading the party. The party is moving forward in Jammu and Kashmir and working for it, he said.

Accusing the NC and the Congress — which he said run the government in Jammu and Kashmir — of having forgotten their agenda and responsibilities, Chugh said, I would like to remind Omar Abdullah, don’t talk about this and that. Tell me, who looted this caravan? You made a promise, why didn’t you keep it?
