Cancer Screening & Awareness Programme Launched in Kargil
LG Kavinder Gupta Calls for Timely Prevention & Early Detection of Cancer
Kargil, September 23, 2025: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, Tuesday inaugurated a Cancer Screening and Awareness Programme organised by Al Reza Health Care and Research Foundation in collaboration with Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Kargil.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor emphasised that cancer remains one of the major global health challenges of our time and underscored the importance of timely prevention, awareness, and early detection to save lives. He lauded the Al Reza Health Care and Research Foundation for its dedicated service to the underprivileged since 2017 and commended the initiative of bringing cancer screening and expert consultations closer to people in Ladakh.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to upgrade healthcare facilities across the Union Territory, Shri Kavinder Gupta announced that the long-pending MRI machine at District Hospital Kargil will be installed soon. He further assured that the demand for a 200-bed hospital in Kargil would be actively considered as part of the administration’s mission to strengthen health infrastructure, enhance diagnostics, and expand specialised treatment facilities.
The Lt Governor also appreciated the efforts of Al Reza Health Care and Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital for establishing a satellite clinic and cancer screening facility in Kargil, noting that such interventions would provide timely access to medical services and reduce the need for patients to travel outside Ladakh.
From a community perspective, President Jamiat Ul Alam Isna Asharia Kargil, Sheikh Nazir-ul-Mehdi, expressed gratitude to the Lt Governor for his presence and continued support to initiatives aimed at improving healthcare in the region.
Later, Shri Kavinder Gupta visited former Minister of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State, Shri Qamar Ali Akhoon, enquired about his health, and wished him a speedy recovery.
The event was attended by senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shri Rakesh Kumar, SSP Kargil Shri Shree Ram R, ADC Kargil, doctors from Yatharth Hospital, volunteers of Al Reza Health Care, and members of civil society.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment, Shri Kavinder Gupta said the UT Government is determined to deliver quality healthcare to every resident of Ladakh with special focus on strengthening district hospitals, expanding telemedicine services, and creating robust referral linkages with tertiary care centres to ensure equitable and timely access to health services for people living in remote areas.
