Bandipora, April 04: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has rescued 38 stranded vehicles during a night-long operation on the 85-km-long Bandipora–Gurez road, which currently remains closed, officials said.
Officer Commanding (OC) 56 RCC BRO, Aman Trivedi, told KC that the vehicles were stranded due to fresh snowfall, snow slides, and slippery road conditions along the route.
Fresh snowfall in the upper reaches of the district triggered multiple snow slides at Zedkushi Nallah and Rani Mode, leading to the stranding of several vehicles. Slippery conditions at Rani Mode further increased the risk for commuters.
Officials said that a night rescue operation was launched by BRO, with men and machinery pressed into service. The teams worked tirelessly through the night to clear snow and restore movement, ensuring the safe evacuation of stranded passengers along with their vehicles.
All passengers were safely rescued. Drivers and passengers expressed gratitude to BRO for their timely and efficient rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, the Bandipora–Gurez road remains closed for vehicular movement as a precautionary measure due to ongoing snowfall and the risk of further snow slides.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travel on the route until weather conditions improve and the road is declared safe for movement.
