Bandipora, May 4: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) conducted a night rescue operation and rescued around 20 vehicles after fresh snowfall led to slippery conditions at Razdan Top on the Bandipora–Gurez road, officials said.

Officials said the snowfall affected vehicular movement along the axis, leaving several vehicles carrying tourists, passengers and essential goods stranded at multiple points. Following this, BRO pressed its men and machinery into service and carried out towing operations to clear the route and move stranded vehicles to safer locations. Around 20 vehicles were rescued during the operation, they said.

According to officials, fresh snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches of Bandipora, including Gurez, Tulail and Kilshay, resulting in reduced traction and unsafe road conditions, particularly along the Razdan Top stretch.

Passengers and tourists who were stranded during the disruption expressed appreciation for the timely intervention by the BRO personnel.

Officials have advised commuters to exercise caution and contact district control rooms before undertaking travel on the Bandipora–Gurez road. They said movement on the route will depend on weather conditions and road safety assessments.

Authorities have urged the public and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and adhere to official advisories. They added that the situation is being monitored and necessary measures are being taken to restore normal movement once conditions improve.
