Gulmarg, Dec 31: Member of the Legislative Assembly from Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, stated that the British did not choose Gulmarg randomly, it has the potential and strength to attract global attention for tourism.

In an exclusive conversation with Kashmir Convener, bureaucrat-turned-politician Farooq Shah said Gulmarg will bounce back to revive the tourism industry in Kashmir, as it holds ample potential.

He said that the strength of this world-famous tourist resort will help revive Kashmir’s tourism, which was severely impacted in  summer following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.

Speaking on New Year’s Eve, the MLA Gulmarg described the destination as a gift to Kashmir, playing a vital role in the tourism sector. He stated that this time, too, Gulmarg has proven crucial in reviving the tourism industry in the Kashmir Valley.

He emphasized that skiing in Gulmarg is affordable, tourist arrangements are world-class, and all hoteliers and others associated with Gulmarg tourism have made excellent arrangements to welcome visitors back to Kashmir.

“Why should India need to go to Switzerland when we have such a beautiful, unmatched tourism location not only Gulmarg but other destinations as well?” he added.

Shah also praised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, calling him a brand ambassador for tourism. He added that the Chief Minister is himself a traveler and adventurer who consistently plays an active role in promoting tourism activities in Kashmir.

Notably, on New Year’s Eve, the white winterland of Gulmarg is jam-packed, with all hotels sold out. Tourist numbers have doubled, and perfect security arrangements are in place.
