Braving cold, BRO on a mission to open Bandipora-Gurez Road

Bandipora, March 16: As the 85-KM long Bandipora- Gurez road is closed for traffic from past few months, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is now making all efforts to clear the snow at Razdaan pass to make the road through for vehicular traffic here in this north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Gurez valley remains cut off from the rest of the world for about six months and the people living there have to stock basic amenities upto October for the next six months. The road is also closed with first snowfall on Razdan top- the highest point between Gurez and Bandipora road situated at an altitude of 3300m. The road was opened for few days and closed again on January 02 this year.
An official said BRO is trying to open the road despite freezing weather, chilly winds and icy surface on the 35-kilometer long stretch from Bandipora to Razdaan, it is for the first time that the BRO is putting its workforce and machinery in such a challenging weather to clear the road to provide extended connectivity to Gurez valley with rest of the State.
Officer Commanding BRO at Bandipora, Lt Col. APS Khaira while speaking to Kashmir Convener said that from Bandipora side the machines have reached Peer Baba location and from Dawar side machines will be reaching Kanzalwan by tomorow clearing snow from Dawar. He said the assistance from DC Bandipora was also requested in terms of few machines in clearing the said stretch from Dawar side. He said the whole hearted efforts are being put in by 56RCC to declare open Bandipora Gurez road at the earliest time frames this year thereby laying yet another milestone as compare to last years, he added.
