BJP Will “Fight” for Separate Law University in Jammu: Sunil Sharma

Jammu, Feb 02: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday launched a sharp attack on Deputy Chief Minister for his remarks on agitating students, saying he had “crossed the limits” of his constitutional position and “should not be taken seriously.”

Sharma termed the Deputy CM’s comments as “unfortunate” and “irrelevant” while strongly backing the students’ demand for a separate National Law University (NLU) in Jammu.

“He does not know what position he is sitting in. He has crossed the limits of the position of Deputy CM,” Sharma told Kashmir Convener on the sidelines of the first day of the Budget session.

Accusing the Deputy CM of “humiliating” the youth, Sharma said, “Those children are our future. The way they are working hard and advocating for Jammu, we should respect them, not humiliate them.”

“The Deputy CM is completely detached from humility. He does not know how to talk to children. For a person sitting in a constitutional position to humiliate them is very unfortunate,” he added.

Dismissing the Deputy CM’s statements, Sharma said, “As it is, I do not take the Deputy CM very seriously, because there is no merit in what he says.”

He asserted that the demand for a separate NLU is “fully justified” and said his party stands firmly with the students.

“The demand of Jammu’s students is justified. They cannot study in Kashmir, and the BJP stands with them. We will fight for a separate National Law University in Jammu,” Sharma declared.

He emphasised the “genuine difficulties” faced by Jammu’s students and insisted the government address these “legitimate” concerns without delay.

The remarks have escalated the political tussle over the NLU issue, with the principal opposition party directly challenging the government’s approach.
