BARAMULLA, Nov 6: The Baramulla Police has launched an advanced safety application, a strategic initiative designed to provide real-time security for journalists and 14 other vulnerable groups through instant police coordination and rapid emergency response.

Dubbed the “Baramulla Safety App,” the platform establishes a direct communication channel to a synchronized police command center. Its central feature is a high-alert emergency mechanism that enables registered users to trigger an immediate alert with a single press of an SOS button.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinder Pal Singh (IPS), informed Kashmir Convener that the application’s protective coverage extends to 15 designated categories.

“This initiative encompasses minority communities, terror-affected families, journalists, and even our own police personnel, who can register their families for emergency support,” SSP Singh stated.

According to officials, the system is engineered to automatically relay the user’s live location and prompt an immediate callback from a designated officer following the activation of an alert.

Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa commended the initiative, describing the application as a reflection of the administration’s unwavering dedication to fostering a secure environment for all residents.

Officials noted that the app is poised to be a crucial support system, with plans to expand its coverage to include more categories in a subsequent phase.

Providing further details, officials released current registration data, which includes: 42 Christians, 132 Buddhists, 2,258 Hindus, 2 Jains, 2,232 Muslims, 609 Kashmiri Pandit migrants, 416 non-Kashmiri government and semi-government employees, 19 non-KP minority migrants, 133 protected persons, 538 non-Kashmiri private sector employees, 566 non-KP non-migrant Sikhs, and 223 terror victim families.
