As the drug menace continues to cast a dark shadow over our society, Baramulla district has been grappling with the challenge of drug peddling and smuggling in its border areas. Nevertheless, amidst this arduous battle, rays of hope emerge, as the Jammu and Kashmir Police, led by the diligent efforts of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amod Ashok Nagpure, make significant strides in curbing the drug trade. During a recent media address SSP Nagpure showcased the fruits of their tireless campaign against drug-related offenses. This unwavering determination sends a strong message to those involved in illegal drug activities – their actions will not go unnoticed, and they will be held accountable. The statistics stand as a testament to the effectiveness of the police's initiatives. Over the last six months, a remarkable 187 FIRs have been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the apprehension of 318 drug peddlers. In an admirable display of commitment, 34 of the most notorious and repeat offenders have been charged under the NDPS Public Safety Act, underscoring the resolute approach taken to combat the drug scourge. The success of this campaign extends beyond mere enforcement, as the police have also focused on raising awareness to tackle the demand side of the issue. Initiating ongoing awareness programs has been instrumental in addressing the root cause of drug abuse, bringing about a positive impact on communities. In addition to enforcement and awareness, the establishment of a complete drug de-addiction center in Baramulla, alongside centers in Srinagar and Anantnag, serves as a crucial measure in tackling the drug menace holistically. These centers aim to address the demand side of drug addiction while simultaneously reducing the drug supply. Despite the strides made, we must remain vigilant and continue to support the police in their mission to make Baramulla a drug-free district. The active cooperation of the community is essential in this endeavor. Individuals must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling or smuggling. Through collective efforts, we can create a safer and healthier environment for our future generations. The progress made in Baramulla serves as a beacon of hope, proving that with determination, commitment, and community involvement, we can win the fight against drug abuse. Together, let us forge ahead towards a brighter, drug-free future for Baramulla and beyond.
